For a while, the grapevine had linked her to the Bigg Boss winner Rahul Roy. And now, she has gone on aggressive trip to promote herself as a singer with the album Outrageous.
She starts off by proclaiming, "Ever since I was 16, I've been jotting down my thoughts on chits of paper. A year ago, when I realised that my acting career was going nowhere, I put my random thoughts together.. they became the lyrics of the seven songs on my album."
Chopra says it was quite a slog to record her own album. "Some music companies rejected my concept," she narrates.
"Because they felt it was too outrageous and wouldn't appeal to Indians at all. So, I've done it on my own, I first publicised my album and then approached the music companies. My gambit has paid off..T-Series has came forward to release my album."
The actress-turned-singer admits that she's out to cash in on her sex appeal. Desires and fantasies are the mantra of the album. And yes, the in-lay cover of Outrageous has been inspired by a Jennifer Lopez CD.
Clearly, Chopra whose daring pictures have appeared on magazine covers, has a killer instinct. Will that work? To that, she shrugs, "No guts, no glory. But please don't make me out to be some conniving girl. I've had my share of downers too."
In a tell-all mode, she continues, "I never got my mum's love. The relationship between my dad and my mum who is a Persian, was strained. When they argued, as a child I'd retreat into my world and books. My family just wanted to get me married off. Only my dad thought that I was special. I was a topper in academics and yet underestimated by my family."
Nothing to talk about
Among her unpleasant experiences in Bollywood, she mentions Vinod Pande's Red Swastika as a very painful experience.
"It's sad that Vinod could not get a decent release for his film athough he has been around for a very long time in this industry," she asserts.
"When the film flopped, he blamed it all on my sexy image. Although the audience today wants spontaneous, natural acting, he made me overact throughout the film. He belongs to the old school. And even those who flock to watch sleaze didn't bother to watch Red Swastika".
She hasn't closed herself from movie offers, far from it "I don't have hang-ups about wearing bikinis. In front of the camera, I'm ek dum bindaas."
